Michael | Saskia | DOUBLE TAKE
To celebrate the launch of the jewelry collection DOUBLE TAKE by Michael Sailstorfer and Saskia Diez, we hosted an exclusive salon evening and staged dinner at Salon Kennedy. Set within the immersive environment of Sailstorfer’s exhibition Dead Short, the event brought together a select group of guests for an intimate experience at the intersection of contemporary art and design.
DOUBLE TAKE is a collaboration that unites Sailstorfer’s sculptural language with Diez’s refined approach to jewelry. On his travels, Sailstorfer collects stones, which Diez then transforms into silver duplicates, mounted as necklaces. These twins are meticulously hand-painted in Sailstorfer’s studio to match their originals, making them visually indistinguishable. However, as the jewelry is worn, the painted surface gradually wears away, revealing the silver beneath—a meditation on time, transformation, and the ephemeral nature of materiality. Each piece remains unique, as the original stone is presented alongside its silver counterpart, forming an inseparable dialogue between art and adornment.
The evening at Salon Kennedy reflected this conceptual interplay, where sculpture, jewelry, and performance converged in an atmospheric setting. A long communal table, covered in kraft paper, became both a dining surface and a canvas, with handwritten names and playful annotations marking places and ingredients. The raw, sculptural aesthetic extended to the decoration: deep purple kale acted as an unexpected yet striking centerpiece, echoing the organic forms of Sailstorfer’s stone collection, while dark, slender candles cast a warm glow over an array of carefully curated dishes. Fresh bread, cheese, cured meats, olives, and butter were laid out in an informal yet thoughtfully arranged manner, inviting guests to engage in a shared experience of touch, taste, and conversation.
Blurring the boundaries between art installation and dining, the evening unfolded as an extension of DOUBLE TAKE itself—a living artwork that evolves over time, revealing new layers of meaning through use and wear.
